The Prevent duty is clear in its requirement – all carers and staff must receive awareness training that equips them to ‘identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism and to challenge extremist ideas’.
Yet this is unfamiliar territory for most in the care and foster carer system who look after vulnerable young people, and knowing how to fulfil this responsibility is a challenge we all must work to address.
The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:
- To define extremism
- To understand the process of radicalisation
- To identify the government’s counter-extremism strategy
- To understand the Prevent agenda
- To consider the Prevent duty
- To look at countering extreme views and beliefs
This course meets the Children’s Home Quality Standards as outlined in The Children’s Homes Regulations (England) 2015 and Children’s Homes Quality Standards 2015.
