Standard 8: Fluid and Nutrition – Adults
What we eat is vital to our health and wellbeing and to how we look, feel, and function. It is important that people have a diet that is safe to eat and has all the nutrients they need. It is also essential that people get enough fluid, or the body cannot carry out basic processes.
This course will look at food safety and the preparation and handling of food, as well as the importance of good nutrition and hydration. It will enable learners to spot the signs of poor nutrition and hydration and will detail how they can promote them in their settings.
The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:
- To understand the importance of food safety, including hygiene and allergens in the preparation and handling of food
- To understand the importance of good nutrition and hydration in maintaining health and wellbeing
- To know the signs and symptoms of poor nutrition and hydration
- To know how to promote adequate nutrition and hydration
