This course aims to enable carers to identify girls at risk of female genital mutilation. Once a girl at risk has been identified, the course will cover what steps you can take to assist those at risk. The course material deals with issues posed by FGM at all stages of a girl or woman’s life.
The key areas of the course are as follows:
- To know what FGM is
- To understand the legal and safeguarding issues regarding FGM in the UK
- To know how FGM may present in girls and young women
- To be aware of the various strategies to manage FGM in girls and young women
- To be aware of the emotional impact of FGM
This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
